Learn Electrician

A safety-first training curriculum covering residential circuits, distribution boards, switchgear installation, troubleshooting, and electrical safety standards.

The Core Principle:Isolate Power -> Test Circuit -> Identify Fault -> Repair/Install -> Verify Grounding -> Restore Power
Note: Always isolate mains power and verify circuits with a calibrated multimeter before touching any wiring. Adhere strictly to local electrical safety codes.

Course Curriculum

Chapter 1: Electrical Principles, Circuit Safety & Distribution Boards

Goal: Understand Ohm's Law, wire gauges, earthing systems, and distribution board wiring.

1.1 Electrical Fundamentals & Safety Protocols

  • Ohm's and Watt's Laws: Understand the relationships between Voltage (V), Current (I), Resistance (R), and Power (Watts).
  • Wire sizing and color codes: Correctly identify Phase (Live), Neutral, and Earth wires, and select suitable wire gauges (1.5 sq mm for lighting, 2.5–4 sq mm for power outlets).
  • Circuit protection devices: Understand Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCB), Residual Current Circuit Breakers (RCCB), and isolators.

1.2 Distribution Board (DB) Wiring & Earthing Systems

  • Distribution board layout: Balance load circuits across single-phase and three-phase consumer units.
  • Earth grounding safety: Verify earth resistance to protect household appliances against dangerous surge voltages and short-circuits.
  • Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO): Follow strict isolation procedures before performing maintenance on consumer panels.
Assignment: Draw a complete single-line wiring schematic for a 2-room residential circuit, showing the distribution box, MCBs, lighting points, and grounded power sockets.

Chapter 2: Appliance Wiring, Fault Finding & Fixture Installation

Goal: Install residential lighting, ceiling fans, power sockets, and diagnose common electrical faults.

2.1 Switchboard Assembly & Fixture Installation

  • Modular switchboard assembly: Wire 1-way switches, 2-way staircase switches, fan speed regulators, and 6A/16A sockets.
  • Lighting and appliance setup: Install LED fixtures, ceiling fan speed regulators, and geyser/water heater connection points.
  • Conduit routing: Run PVC surface and concealed conduits using draw wires without damaging wire insulation.

2.2 Systematic Troubleshooting & Fault Diagnosis

  • Using a digital multimeter: Measure AC voltage levels, circuit continuity, and check for high-resistance loose connections.
  • Diagnosing short circuits and nuisance tripping: Isolate malfunctioning household appliances causing RCCBs or MCBs to trip.
  • Repairing loose and damaged wiring: Replace charred switch terminals and install clean wire splices with insulated wire nuts.
Assignment: Assemble and test a physical modular switchboard containing one 2-way switch, one power outlet, and a working indicator lamp.

Chapter 3: Required Books for Detailed Knowledge
